The Shine Project Foundation Parent Mentors are special needs parents who share their time to offer one-on-one support and resources on autism-related topics, such as navigating a diagnosis and starting with the regional center, learn what you qualify for, obtaining services, resources in California, insurances including Medi-Cal, IHSS, preparing for and navigating IEPs (Individualized Education Programs), and more.
Our dedicated Parent Mentors are parents and caregivers, like you, as well as professionals with a deep understanding of special needs resources. They are committed to empowering families who face the daily challenges of being a special needs caregiver, combining their personal experiences and professional expertise to offer support. Mentors are here to listen, assist families in problem-solving, help find the resources they need for their child, and provide emotional support.
The Shine Project Foundation hosts various caregiver events throughout the year for our families, as well as ongoing community, wellness, and training events for parents and caregivers.
The Shine Project Foundation Lunch and Learns are led by our Parent Mentor and Support Specialist, Monique Haithcock and hosted at our community partner locations, including Engel & Völkers in Carlsbad and The Autism Guide in Rancho Bernardo.
Topics Covered: Navigating a diagnosis, California Resources, Starting IHSS, Preparing for an IEP Meeting, Learn about Self-Determination Program and San Diego Military Support Resources.
